marquis It's alright, it's alright. No harm done - it's just getting the information around faster, eh? For the jail cell, I'm only a bit familiar. [ he was bleeding on the floor there... ] What'd you see?
lord-commander My apologies all the same. As for what we saw, the air was a bit suffocating, and humid, as though it were damp. And there was noise in the background akin to prayer.
There were also five of those strange chocolate bars. Toblerones?
[ i hate the mods ]
The plastic food there was melted when we awoke, and though I'm not quite sure how better to describe it, there was a salty taste in my mouth? It was all very strange.
marquis finally, someone with some sense [ the way im going to throw myself at nu for cr 100mph despite our schedules ]
Hm. Good to know. I was in the medbay - last night, the pods kept opening and closing up until we were knocked to sleep. I slept in one, but others didn't. However, we all woke up inside of them. If I had to hazard a guess, one of our assailants likely slept in them, since we didn't find anything in there last week, despite an illusory clue.
[ hello vira! gu yun, despite the fact that he claims not to be, is also a giant nerd. he's got a couple of books where he's sitting - one that looks like a primer on some of the equipment in the laboratory, and a couple of history books. the one in his hand seems to be a record of military tactics, actually, and he sits back from reading it and cracks his neck, lifting his arms to stretch.
spotting vira in the process, gu yun gives her a little nod in greeting. sup. ] Enjoying the library so far?
[ don't worry, he is clearly a nerd. she curtsies briefly, or as best as one can with an armful of books. hers mostly seem related to technology—seems like they might've been on the same page. ]
Yes, it's nice to have more of a selection.
[ more than just trashy romances ]
Though I see you're studying as well. You must be preparing yourself for something big, if you're reading a primer on war.
I don't know if I'd say that. We're always at war, one way or another.
[ he turns the book to show her the cover, though - in specific, it looks like a book about... European-ish tactics? fantasy european. ] "Know thy enemy and know thyself, and in a hundred battles, you'll never be defeated", and all of that.
Though, with a title like 'Lord Commander", you must be familiar with the concept, right?
Hm... [ she considers, because it's a more loaded question than it could be. ] I never held any love for that role to begin with. So when the opportunity for happiness appeared, I reached out and took it.
I'd think that's something everyone here could relate to.
he's quiet for a moment, with that, expression changing just a fraction. a little softer, at the edges. there's something bittersweet about the idea. ]
Mm. I think so. [ that's gone after a second, though, and gu yun huffs a laugh, a bit more wry. ] It's certainly not much of a life for 'indulgence'! I don't want to allow myself to slack off too much, so it's best to keep skills sharp. The mind's just as much of a tool as any blade, after all.
Aree you reading up on the technology here, as well, Vira?
It is the worst, isn't it? To suddenly feel so behind? I feel as though I'm learning something new about the future every day, but I'd rather like to swim forward instead of treading water.
[ vira is chilling at the beach, if it could be called chilling, just sort of walking along the sand and Thinking while there's a moment of peace to do so. relative peace, anyway. it's a big enough place to get lost in.
but not today, because she's going to run into gu yun! she spots him before she has a moment to turn away. i'm sure this will be fine ]
[ vira!! gu yun's on the beach, also, today, just sort of vibing. he's got a book of some sort in his lap, monocle perched on his nose.
glancing up, he spots vira, and sees her turn. it is tragically enough eye contact to share some emotions - a bit of surprise, at first, recognition, and then an easy, neutrality.
he gives a little wave. ] I have a feeling there's something you'd like to talk with me about.
[ vira meets his surprise with her own, and a very deliberate, guarded instinct. this week is unfortunate, because it's plain to see there's no sincere sentiment behind her smile, but she puts one on anyway. decorum does matter. ]
If you wouldn't mind. Though perhaps we're of the same mind on a few matters as well.
[ one day i'll be functional before grandma hours..... ONE DAY
she's been evasive with one-on-one conversations with all... this, but she doesn't mind when it's mostly chatting about business. she brushes some sand off a seat and sits. ]
Thank you. First, I was hoping you could explain the situation with Childe.
[ just to be clear! luckily, business is easy for him too - there's not really any emotional reaction at all, and he keeps a healthy distance as well as his eyes mostly out on the horizon. not too much eye contact today kids. ]
I have heard some of Sunday. [ she sounds sort of exhausted about this, and her feelings match to a T. it's easier to clamp down on feelings when it's a talk like this. ] I'd like to know your account of Saturday.
You saw the weapon used during execution. I was the only person that knew Childe was in possession of that knife - he showed it to me. When I woke up on Thursday, I knew I was in danger, so I went to go fetch it first thing to defend myself with.
After everything was finished, on Friday, I found him to spar with as I usually did in the morning. Upon doing so, I did inform him of what happened - that I defended myself against Mahito with the knife. By that point, I had thought perhaps he may have been lying about using his power on me, and I couldn't see well enough to tell otherwise, that it might have been something else. I did take the benefit of the doubt in assuming it was the what are those power, because he had Doctors Hate Her or something he could use in a pinch to protect himself.
I also knew as soon as Mahito's body was recovered, Childe would know instantly that I was the one who had killed Mahito. I decided to cut that off at the pass - I didn't want him to think he had any sort of bargaining chip over me, because I knew he'd throw me to the wolves in a second. Similarly, I'd throw him to the wolves with the knife, and the false story about his power, whether he was innocent or not. Conveniently, it turned out he was a murderer.
I also discovered that he and Mahito were working together, though I found that out at the same time as everyone else - at trial. When we discovered the crime scene at the airpot, Mineo described it to me, that there was flour everywhere, and Shi Qingxuan had told me Aoi had pepper spray. Which I discovered. [ unfortunately. with his face. vira will likely feel his distaste not just for the pepper spray, but for both mahito and chlde and their working together as he's talking. he's perfectly calm, though. ]
I knew nothing about his kill, or his working with Mahito, until the trial itself. I wouldn't have covered for his bullshit story about his power, if I knew. [ there's a beat, and he reaches up and rubs his temples. ] However, it would have been far more convenient for me if he'd just stayed dead, but I think it would have been more convenient for all of us.

w2 - friday
lord-commander
Harrowhark, have you stumbled upon anything odd? I noticed another of what I suspect are those (vague, unhelpful) illusions earlier.

Goodness, a man gains a limb made of bone, and suddenly, he looks like Harrow...
Kidding - this is Gu Yun.
Mind trading information? I was in the medbay this morning after the announcement.

lord-commander
I'm so terribly sorry, Gu Yun. I must be under the weather...
But I would be happy to share with you what I know. I was in the jail cell last night, if you've had a chance to acquaint yourself with it at all.

Prayer. Hmm.
Do you know if any of the victims we had this week were particularly religious?
[ WHY TOBLERONE HE'S SO TIRED. there's a brief pause before he sends the second half. sighs. ]
I was deeply hoping to never see that word again.
I believe ... I am completely finished with these sorts of events occurring around food.
no subject
I don't know that any of them were, or that the prayer is necessarily related to the murders. Perhaps it points to the chapel.
And I am electing to ignore the Toblerones lest we get distracted again.
[ GOODBYE, KAZ KAAN ]
Blessedly, the only strange thing I noted in the kitchen this time was dirty, stale water running from the sink.

Yes. I was Lord Commander of a military citadel for a number of years. We trained the finest would-be knights, soldiers, and what have you.
[ which she admits with practiced ease, used to these kind of introductions. ]

Yes, I don't want to be caught unawares by the new rooms here. Or any of the mysteries of this place.
