[ sheila's emotions are so... vibrant? so honest to how she's already treated them all so far. vira feels the expected surprise as she turns to look over at her, and after that is a sort of pleasant contentedness at seeing sheila.
but it's pretty quickly buried under something cautious, guilty. she keeps her voice light, though. ]
It is. First a spa, then a beach? I'd almost say we're being spoiled. [ her emotions are saying something more like actually this place is the worst, but you know. ]
[Vira, you okay... Sheila nearly frowns when the emotions get buried, but she disguises it with a brief laugh.]
Almost. [That is a mood. This place is truly the worst but, eh. Gotta make the best of it.] Take out the other ninety nine percent of what happens here, and you could totally market it as a resort.
It's not not worthwhile. I'd call it the online shopping experience. The quality is never what you want, and it's almost entirely useless, but you got exactly what you paid for.
[A beat.]
Or, in our case, exactly the level of too good to be true we agreed to...?
[ she may know what a sharknado is, but she has never heard of online anything. so there's still some puzzlement there, but also mild humor. she's gotten used to this, talking to eleanor and sheila.
she's really disarming in that way. even vira can't really keep her guard up long. ]
Mmhm. I knew this wouldn't be easy, but from the beginning there's been more... obstacles than I expected.
[ with mercy and all that. her mood dips into something acutely pained at the memory, and something else, though she smiles a little ruefully anyway. ]
I think it takes a special sort of person to find meaning in a place like this.

Almost so. A place to indulge in the stars... it's sort of romantic on paper.
[ now she's just feeling sappy—a little longing. ]
If not for this 'race' and murder and everything else, I'd say I was enjoying myself here.

[Vira probably does not know who that is and honestly, lucky.]
I'm still glad to be here, though. If I weren't, I wouldn't have met you or anyone else.
[Sappy is apparently contagious.]

...That's sweet of you to say.
[ she is very taken aback?? but recovers quickly, smiling a bit. ]
You really think this experience worthwhile? We've gotten so little out of it. [ besides each other. ]

[... She won't say she didn't expect death, though. Death is a prerequisite of her existence for reasons Vira is already aware of, whew.]
I think anyone can find meaning wherever they go. It doesn't always have to be good meaning.
